Finally Unpacked

It's really weird, but tonight I decided to finally unpack. My 4 bags are empty, and my whole room's set up. Let's see if I can show you some pictures... Actually, leme see if I can show you some video. Apologies for the crummy quality of the video--I had to use my cellphone to do this. [You'll really need QuickTime for this one.]

Anyway, this is my room. You walk in the door and you see this old black leather couch and small desk that I use to hold my books and such. Next to it is a small stand that I use to hold my (favorite piece of) luggage, which I'll be using almost monthly. As you rotate around, you'll see my flat panel tv (from Costco, of course) and DVD player (on top of my one dresser)... My twin bed--without Italian sheets... My workdesk and chair, mind you, which is nothing like the Steelcase Leap Chair that I had before. This is where I work when I'm in my room and not in the Academic Village. Before I left San Francisco--the city I love the most--I bought some photographs that this San Francisco artist took. He frequently sells his work in Union Square. Let me try to find the link and post it later.

I don't have much closet/dresser space, so I put some of my clothes on top of my luggage. Oh well... For $350/month, fully furnished and with all utilities included, I guess I shouldn't be complaining--beat that Santa Cruz folks! ;-)

But, I'm definitely getting sentimental. As I unpacked, I began to realize that I really do miss home. While there are *some people* here in New York, they're still too far away since I'm Syracuse and they're in New York City. And, further... Some of them won't even be around for that long. ::sigh::

I've made friends here in Syracuse--my classmates are people I see almost every day. And, I imagine that as the program continues, that I'll grow closer with some of them. There are definitely some cool people that have pushed me to explore other career possibilities--sell out big, I've been told. And, there are others who have shown me that we really can learn together and not compete for the best grades. I'll never forget what Christine said during orientation week:
We've only awarded one 4.0 in the past 3 years you guys. But if one of you gets a 4.0, you've gotta be asking yourselves if we taught you anything.
NYC in 5 days!
