6 Meetings Before Lunch
Well if you haven't heard yet, UC Santa Cruz's new chancellor's partner has received a $192,000 position during California's budget crisis.
So keeping that in mind, here's how my yesterday went... I got up at about 1pm, feeling sick. About the only thing that kept me going was my Popeye's Flat Leaf Spinach from Costco and a V8. Yippy. Let's go to work!
They day was slow, as I scheduled meetings with board members and staff, but with only 15 minutes left until I was to leave, would could possibly happen? I mean, I was sick, wanted to go home, and needed to do homework, right? Well, our SUA (read: student government) Chair decides to give up her seat at the meeting of a lifetime: the meeting where our Chancellor attempts to kiss everyone's asses in order to make up for her mistake!!! =)
What could this mean? Well, there are a few things on the plate of Engaging Education (known as, "e-squared")... Student-Initiated Outreach funding needs to be found for the next few years (with this budget crisis and all), an Asian-American faculty member needs to be hired for the American Studies department, the labor unions needs to have contracts... What better time to take advantage and go straight for the jugular?
An emergency meeting is called with all of the board and staff, and we've done some pretty good work... A memo and talking points for the meeting have been made, and people stayed up till 1.50am working. ::sigh::
Regardless, more stuff happens with a good friend of mine. [I'm not mad at you--sheesh!] And, now I start my homework.
Anyway, I'll be dressed up tomorrow--hopefully, going to the meeting--having turned in homework and ready to negotiate a few hundred thousand dollars to save outreach (read 1 and read 2).
